Clean shirt? Check. Clean pants? Check. Clean tie? Check. Clean shoes?...Uh-oh.
If you’re reading this, then you probably know the feeling. You’re about to go to a formal event, whether it’s a wedding, corporate meeting or another type, and you realize that you don’t have any clean, polished shoes. Even though everything else is clean and ready to go, you just know that those dirty shoes will break your outfit and everything that you worked so hard for will come crashing down into a million tiny pieces. However, if you know how to shine your shoes like a pro, you can prevent that from happening and show up in style. At Sherman Brothers Shoes, we have Alden shoes for sale and many other brands. We also know a thing or two about shoes. Here’s how to shine men’s shoes like a professional:
- Find something to put under your shoes - This can be anything from an old towel to a newspaper. It might get messy where you’re working, and the last thing you want is to have shoe polish smeared on everything.
- Clean off your shoes and remove any dirt - Before you start polishing your shoes, you need to clean them off and make sure there’s no dirt on them. The best way to do that is to rub them down with a damp cloth or horsehair brush. Then, let them dry before you move onto the next step.
- Use the shoe polish - It’s now time to use the shoe polish. Either using a polishing brush or an old t-shirt, apply an even layer to the surface of the shoes. Work the polish into every part of the shoes by using a circular motion. It’s also a good idea to pay extra attention to the heels and the toes. Allow them to dry for 15 minutes each.
- Remove the excess polish and then buff the shoes with a good horsehair shoe brush, then a shine cloth - Once they’re dry, brush the shoes in a vigorous motion using a fine horsehair shoeshine brush. Then, buff the shoes with a soft shine cloth to finish the process.
